Mission Statement
Our mission for our Health and Wellness project is twofold: (1) our team of talented young ladies will create a handful of hygiene kits to bring awareness to female hygiene and provide these resources to our community. Our hygiene kits will provide a handful of homeless women in our community with a few of the resources necessary to improve their health and wellness. Secondly, we will host a school event that will include a variety of presentations and hands-on, interactive, workshops that educate and promote women's’ hygiene and its benefits to young girls and women all across Los Angeles. Our workshops at the event will hold emphasize on the following topics: menstrual hygiene, skin care, mental care, etc.
Project Proposal/need
Our Girls Build LA group from USC Media Arts & Engineering Magnet (affectionately known as USC MAE) is composed of nine very talented, aspiring young women. Each girl has gained a substantial amount of knowledge and experience on women's health. So when we put our heads together we decided that we wanted to focus both on the mental and physical health of women.
To help promote hygiene care and mental health, our GBLA team decided that our target audience is the young ladies on our school campus and those in our community. We will hold interactive events during lunch in which our team will educate young women on the importance of personal care by highlighting most aspects of women health.
Our final event will primarily be an on-campus presentation, showcasing many different aspects of women's health. We will invite high school girls to our event in which we will present a powerpoint that highlights a few very important health issues. Afterward, we will host interactive workshops to do hand-on activities with our attendee’s that deal with our presentation. In addition to that, as a station at the event, we will use the hygiene items purchased and/or donated to us to create the hygiene kits that will later be distributed. With much dedication and support, we are optimistic in hosting a successful event in which everyone will be given the opportunity to gain new knowledge on women's health to create a healthy life for themselves and their community.
