Our School
LAUSD/USC Media Arts and Engineering Magnet (affectionately known as USC MAE) High School is home of the new Magnet Programs that blends the Cinematic Arts, Engineering and Computer Science. We are committed to student-centered learning. We provide thematic, sequential and integrated academic curriculum within an active learning environment. We prepare life-long learners who live creative and meaningful personal and professional lives and contribute to society both locally and globally. Our USC MAE Girls Build LA team of scholars is well known for their diversity among each student in the group. USC MAE offers a safe place for all students and empowers women by preparing them for their future in higher education and their overall life.
Our Community
Our school is located in the heart of Los Angeles with the second largest homeless population in the United States. We are located less than 20 minutes away from Skid Row in which 3,000 homeless people reside. Out of these 3,000 people more than half are women. The girls in our group have grown up in an area that has become accustomed to these problems. Most people in our city are inattentive or unaware of the struggles homeless people and especially homeless women are facing everyday.
Need for This Project
Women have turned into the quickest developing section of the homeless populace in the United States, yet almost no thought goes toward their socio-statistic profile, health status, utilization of health administrations, or the connection between their homeless condition to these social and health factors. Homeless women are exceptionally powerless subgroup of the homeless populace. With our help we can start the trend of assisting homeless women population.
